I have been seeing a lot of fabric birthday banners around on the web. I love them, so I decided my son's 2nd birthday is coming up, I should make one for him. Since his birthday is the 4th of July, I thought red, white, and blue were appropriate.
So, I had some fat quarters around, all I needed was wonder under. I downloaded a font from Word and mirror imaged it so that the letters were backwards. I traced them onto wonder under and the cut them out. I made my squares 5x7, seemed like a reasonable size. I am about halfway done, but so far I think it looks pretty good. I am going around each letter with a zig zag stitch, and then I'm going to back it with the same fabric. I have seen them attached to a ribbon, which is what I will probably do, but I think I'll put buttons on each corner as well. I hope it turns out well. I thought it would be really cool to make a family type heirloom for my boy. I hope he likes it.
